Job Overview

You are a human resource leader with the passion to cultivate and build a productive and inspired workforce.  You will drive culture and engagement.  You will help senior management translate business goals into organizational solutions in line with the business plan for the organization.  You enjoy working in an entrepreneurial workforce and using your human resource expertise to bring the organization to its next level.  This position reports to the Controller and does not have any direct reports


  • Handle all aspects of the HR function, including recruiting, hiring, processing new hire paperwork, exit/termination process, maintaining employee records and processing background checks
  • Perform weekly/monthly payroll department operations, including but not limited to, reconciliation of payroll prior to transmission, identifying, researching and resolving payroll discrepancies
  • Process accurate and timely year-end reporting (W-2, W-2c, ACA, etc.)
  • Annually evaluate benefit policies and make renewal recommendations to company management, and coordinate all open enrollment activities
  • Update and reconcile employer provided benefits
  • Maintain personnel records to ensure compliance with legislation pertaining to employee files, hiring and personnel matters, company policies, reporting requirements and retention guidelines
  • Ensure compliance with all Federal and State regulations (FMLA, EEO, ERISA, ACA, I-9, workers’ compensation, unemployment, etc.)
  • Process employment verification requests, leave of absences, short-term disability and unemployment insurance
  • Understand, communicate, and administer company personnel policies, procedures, practices and organizational changes; update employee handbook as needed
  • Serve as the first point of contact for employee inquiries regarding HR policies and programs and payroll related inquiries
  • Survey employees to inform management and make recommendations to improve company culture and practices, policies and procedures
  • Develop a comprehensive recruiting strategy and provide oversight for recruiting activities
  • Perform employment application review and screening
  • Create individual recruitment strategies including advertising plans, outreach and tracking in collaboration with hiring managers
  • Source a pool and build pipelines of qualified candidates; foster strong relationships and maintain frequent contact with candidates in person and via phone, email and social media
  • Develop and implement an innovative diversity and inclusion plan to support diversity initiatives and bolster recruiting efforts of top diverse talent
  • Provide vision, leadership and coordination for the development of Twain’s diversity and inclusion strategies
  • Manage Twain’s brand on social media and hiring sites to support recruiting efforts
  • Serve as a role model for company values and operating principles by embodying our culture through behavior and interactions

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in a relevant field with HR related coursework
  • Human Resources certification (PHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP) preferred
  • Overall knowledge of State and Federal employment laws and requirements
  • 5+ years of professional HR generalist functions: recruiting, employee relations, compensation, benefits, payroll, employment law/compliance, and performance management
  • Full-cycle recruiting, on-boarding, off-boarding, and performance management experience
  • Administration of compensation and benefits, including but not limited to, benefits updates, renewals, annual enrollment, 401k audits, IRS audits, MODOR audits, workers compensation audits, etc.
  • Experience fielding questions related to employment; including benefits, payroll, onboarding, policies, compliance, workers compensation, etc.
  • Experience with Paylocity WebPay, WebTime, and Onboarding a plus
